TSC350T Cartridge Checkweigher

Thompson Scale Co. was challenged by one of our OEM customers to provide a simple solution for what has been a complex and expensive method of weighing filled cartridges laying on the horizontal as they exit the cartridge filling machine.

Until now the only available solution was to capture the rolling cartridges with a set of timing screws, standing the cartridges on the vertical, then passing the side-belt transfer conveyors suspended from load cells to weigh the cartridges. Expensive, cumbersome and consuming a large footprint, and not very accurate on weight.

We took inspiration from the simple method the filler uses to discharge the filled cartridges and designed a checkweigher with practically no moving parts. Cartridges simply roll across a fixed weigh table tilted to about 4° to keep the inertia going as the cartridges exit the filler. A timing wheel sets spacing for each cartridge. As seen in our video we can make rates to 140 per minute and can manage quick and simple discharge of off-weight tubes through a trap door style reject. Inexpensive, simple and a small footprint with accuracies to +/-1g @ 2 Sigma.
